Ligue 1: Pochettino was key in Wijnaldum joining PSG

Georginio Wijnaldum has explained his reasons for signing for making the move from Liverpool to Paris Saint-Germain.

Various clubs were after the Dutchman, including Barcelona, but the midfielder finally decided on a move to the Ligue 1 giants.

«I was at the end of my contract and various clubs got in contact with me,» Wijnaldum told PSG TV.

«When PSG came calling, everything went well and I quickly signed.

«Mauricio Pochettino had already tried to sign me for Tottenham, so I’d already had conversations with him.

«The whole club made me feel like they really wanted me, and this also really affected my decision.»

The Netherlands international also explained how PSG‘s style of play suits him well.

«At Liverpool we played really offensive football,» Wijnaldum said.

«Playing attacking football is a philosophy that suits me, and PSG are a team who plays this kind of football.»

Finally, Wijnaldum spoke of his desire to win silverware at his new club.

«I’ve shown at the clubs I’ve been at that I’m a player who wants to win,» he added.

«I have a mentality where I always want to get better, to learn from my teammates and coaches.

«I’ll try to bring this attitude to the team and integrate as quickly as possible with the squad.

«PSG want to win and they’re a club who have progressed a lot in recent years, that have played in a Champions League final and also got to the semi-final last season.

«I think it’s a great project and we’re building a team that can achieve these goals.»
